Palm Strike: Miami Fight is our free browser fighting game, set at sunset on Calle Ocho in Little Havana. It's a 32-bit pixel-art prototype with two playable fighters, Doña Chancleta and Kilo, on one stage. You can fight the CPU or a friend on the same keyboard, and touch controls kick in on touch screens. We generated the art, animation, UI, music, SFX and 3D with fal.ai, coded with Astra on ChatGPT, and shipped it on Vercel. A Three.js arcade cabinet lets you spin the machine the game lives in. Start to playable took about 4 hours and $18.80 in fal.ai generations. Play it at miamifight.com.

Challenge

  • Make a fighting game that feels like Miami.
  • Keep it free and instant: it runs in a browser tab, with no download and no install.
  • Hold one 32-bit look across 137 AI image generations.
  • Make the fighting feel fair, with steady timing and buffered inputs.
  • Keep human direction and QA on the AI output, so the details land and the tone stays right.

Approach

  • Original Miami cast. We designed an 8-fighter roster rooted in the city and made two of them playable: Doña Chancleta and Kilo.
  • A style we chose on purpose. We ran 6 style tests and picked 32-bit pixel art, with a lightning banner and palm tree logo.
  • fal.ai for assets. 208 generations (137 image, 67 audio, 3 video, 1 3D) for $18.80 total, under our direction.
  • Code with Astra on ChatGPT. We built on Phaser, TypeScript and Vite, with a fixed 60-step-per-second simulation, buffered inputs and automated tests.
  • A cabinet you can spin. Three.js renders an interactive 3D arcade cabinet with a preview of the game on its screen.
  • Human QA on top. We caught a Doña lookalike in the crowd, a "ROUUND 1" typo, an off-model Kilo walk sheet and a pistol silhouette on the cabinet kick plate.
  • Shipped on Vercel. It's hosted on Vercel with Vercel Analytics and live at miamifight.com and game.purplehorizons.io.
